Azure IoT Platform

Azure OSVRD — IoT Digital Signage Reference Design & Microsoft Accelerate Program

Led inception-to-commercial delivery of one of the first Azure Open Source Vertical Reference Designs — a Digital Signage IoT solution used by Microsoft as a market-facing reference architecture across the United States. Concurrently delivered five enterprise IoT engagements under Microsoft's Accelerate program.

The problem

Microsoft sought to demonstrate Azure as an enterprise IoT platform across the United States through openly published reference architectures that customers and partners could adopt directly. The Azure Open Source Vertical Reference Design (OSVRD) initiative needed first-of-kind production-ready exemplars; concurrently, Microsoft's Accelerate program required partner engineering capacity to migrate enterprise on-premises workloads to Azure IoT in funded, time-bound engagements.

Transformation approach

I assumed sole end-to-end leadership of the Digital Signage OSVRD initiative from inception — steering it from proof-of-concept through pilot to commercial launch in approximately one year. I defined the reference architecture for the digital signage solution, identifying Azure components for IoT data ingestion, edge processing, and cloud analytics; oversaw multi-platform device integration; and drove user experience design for the customer-facing web portal — a component I identified as critical for end-customer adoption.

Concurrently, I managed Microsoft's Accelerate program, delivering five concurrent IoT engagements: a health-and-fitness analytics startup, a digital smart-shelving analytics solution, a fleet battery status monitoring system, a wildfire remote monitoring and control solution, and a dynamic VM scaling implementation for an enterprise IaaS client.

Innovation

The reference-architecture-and-Accelerate playbook executed here — productizing reusable Microsoft platform assets to drive enterprise customer adoption — directly foreshadowed the AI Accelerator Marketplace (QDojo) I later founded at Quadrant Technologies (2025–Present). The same "reusable, ready-to-deploy asset" pattern was applied to enterprise AI accelerators eight years later.

This engagement also marked the start of a multi-year continuous Microsoft track that progressed through Teams telemetry (2018–2021), Microsoft Business Operations partner-incentive analytics (2021–2023), and the Microsoft Fast Track BI program (2023–2025).

Responsibilities

  • Defined the reference architecture for the digital signage solution
  • Steered the OSVRD initiative end-to-end from POC through pilot to commercial launch in ~12 months
  • Oversaw multi-platform device integration across heterogeneous IoT endpoints
  • Drove user experience design for the customer-facing web portal
  • Delivered five concurrent IoT engagements across diverse industries
  • Directly contributed to Microsoft's Azure Consumption Revenue (ACR) targets through enterprise migrations under the Accelerate program

Impact

  • Reusable architecture: Established Azure IoT architecture patterns that served as reference designs for subsequent Microsoft customer engagements, amplifying impact beyond individual projects.
  • Time-to-market: Took the Azure OSVRD Digital Signage platform from initial POC to commercial launch in approximately 12 months — an aggressive timeline for a first-of-kind reference architecture.
  • Cross-domain coverage: Delivered five concurrent IoT engagements across health & fitness, retail analytics, fleet management, wildfire control, and cloud infrastructure — demonstrating cross-domain IoT architecture expertise on Azure.
  • Adoption: Reference design directly contributed to Microsoft's ability to position Azure IoT to enterprise customers across the United States.
